“What Should I Post?!”

I get this question often and it’s one of the things that seem to keep people stuck. The good news is it doesn’t have to be as intimidating as it might sound.

Your journey comes with content ideas built in. Every decision you make, each new skill you’re learning, and all the details of your daily life are all excellent sources of content inspiration.

Let’s talk a little bit about what you can be posting.

Need Inspiration for Your Current Content?

If you’ve been posting and feel like something is missing, I can tell you, I’ve been there. You’re posting consistently (or you should be!) but all you’re ever able to achieve is a few dozen or at best a few hundred views on your content.

First, let me say that this is okay!

Depending on how many pieces of content you’ve created, you’ve undoubtedly learned a few things that you didn’t know when you first started out. I believe that if you want to get amazing engagement on your content, you have to experience your content growing pains.

So, shift your mindset from “my content doesn’t get views” to “my content is teaching me how to improve so I can capture my audience’s attention”. When you make this mental switch, it will take the pressure off the not-so-important (for the time being) factor of metrics to the invaluable focus on growing your skills as a creator. You stop looking for likes and start looking for areas to improve.

The beautiful thing about making this switch? Your audience (and future audience) will notice your growth! They will see the evolution of your content and be inspired by what you've been able to accomplish by believing in yourself and working towards your goals.

Stay consistent. Your effort is paying off!

“Start Messy!”

If you haven’t started posting yet, the good news is you haven’t run into the confusion of wondering why your content isn’t working yet. Your only obstacle at this point is getting over the idea that you have to create perfect content when you get started. (See my first recording session for my Podcast “Your Breakthrough” at the bottom of this email 🥰)

You have to start somewhere. If you’re just learning what creating valuable content takes, learning through trial and error will guide you along the way.

Each new piece of content you create, you should be “playing” with different elements, recording styles, content subject, etc. What will happen is you’ll find your brand style and land on your messaging style. That is why you should start posting as soon as possible.

Here’s a tip. If you’re working on building your brand identity and content style, do what I call “niche hacking”. Look at the accounts within your niche that have found success on social media and take note of the things you see they’re doing well and test those aspects in your own content, with your own twist.

Also, note what you don’t think they do well. That is just as important as identifying what works well because if it doesn’t appeal to you, if you were to try incorporating those aspects into your own content it would come off as disingenuous and your audience will feel that.

You’re in your testing phase. Learn, implement, then pivot when you learn something new. Sooner or later, you will land on your brand style, messaging, and content strategy.
